Oahu shoppers made a pilgrimage yesterday morning to the first two Target stores to open in Hawaii, in Salt Lake and Kapolei. Target Corporation opened the doors to both stores to hundreds of customers who lined up at least two hours prior to the 8 a.m. opening.
The first customers were greeted with applause and high-fives by Target staff before nabbing their red plastic shopping carts and making a beeline for merchandise inside. Local residents had been waiting a long time for the retailer to come to Hawaii, and likewise Target has been trying for many years to open stores here. A third store is slated to open in July in Kona on the Big Island.
