Target's website is currently down this morning, replaced by their cute mascot dog dressed as a construction worker (shown here).
Racked.com is reporting that it's been down for about an hour already, leading to speculation that perhaps the
Missoni for Target madness crashed the site.

I was able to log on w/o problems at 7 am EST and bought a bunch of clothing, but went to the store around 8:30 am to look at the housewares... It was CRAZY, worse than when the Liberty line came out. Actually, there may have been a fewer number of people, but those that WERE there grabbed by the armfuls and just checked out with everything. The housewares, luggage, accessories, womens' clothing racks and shelves were literally bare. Luckily, and maybe just because they were in an isolated section of the store, I was able to get the gorgeous glass vases, which were the things I actually wanted most... One target associate did tell me that they expected to get periodic shipments throughout the Missoni event period. Hope some of you are having better luck at your local stores, especially since the site is down!
Yep, I think the early eastern crowd got lucky. Out west I tried just before 5:00 am, got on the site briefly and then it crashed. It's been down ever since, almost 3 hours.
So mad the site is down. There were a few more things I wanted. Girls get to Target ASAP if you want anything. It was a feeding freenzy this AM. Then AMEx had to spoil it all by calling my husband to verify that the card hadn't been stolen after my $1200 bill!!
yep, I was just checking out at 8 am when the blipping thing went down. my basket had 11 items in it - I suspect i've lost them all. So I stopped at the Falls Church VA target, but by 8:45 am it was stripped pretty clean. bummer.
I went to my Target (Southeast Florida) this morning around 9 a.m. just out of curiosity. There was nothing I was particularly lusting after in the Missoni line, but the store was filled with women with carts piled high with all the stuff they could grab. Sort of disgusting really b/c they were openly discussing how they were going to resell it. I'll be curious to see how the ebay auctions go b/c I wasn't very impressed with what I was seeing. The housewares were decent, but the b&w luggage looked terrible in my humble opinon. As far as the shoes, the rainboots were cute for both women & children and the children's flats were cute...the women's shoes, notsomuch. Over all though, I'd say the entire Missoni line was 90% sold out by the time I arrived!
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones living in Central Texas. There were 6 of us waiting at 8 a.m. and plenty of everything when I left. I was able to score the Roller/Carry-on Luggage. We have so many Targets and these "designer" lines are never very popular so there is always plenty of stock in every store. Good luck everyone!
Just placed 2 orders. It's back up but who knowss if I'll get it.
Thanks for the reports from around the nation, dear readers! I faced similar challenges at my local Target store this morning (which I will blog about later today) and still haven't been able to get on their web site.
And 4DsfromLHP: that's really shameful that people were buying just to resell at a markup. Right now, there is a paper (PAPER!) Missoni for Target wine box on eBay for $69....which I just bought in store for $9.99. Incredible!
"Target Addict" we share local stores. It did not make me feel optimistic about humanity to have people just packing carts to the brim regardless of size or need. The thing I think most Target people love is the design for all motto.
I appreciated your heads up about getting a Target not Amazon account and letting us all know Target changed ad firms as well. Both of these entities work closely with retailers to find the blind spots. I think going completely internal gave them some big problems with the launch. Their website has issues when it isnt a Missoni launch so for that I could guarantee problems prior to the launch.
However for the store, they could have managed by limiting the number of pieces prior to check out. This was a grab and go for many as it seems with a few exceptions that most stores were cleaned out by 9 a.m. I am hoping they are smart enough to pull a page from their Liberty of London launch and reissue things again. This will bring
down the resale "merchants" on eBay.
Both the store and online experience left me a little cold. I've been lucky with other hard to find pieces of collaborations like the Liberty of London bike or the Gaultier trench. This launch was a big bust for me. I'm glad some non hoarders were able to get through on the web or be remote enough to find things in the store. I think for the normal collab shopper, we were not served. I will hope for a reissue for eBay greed for the many of us who have enjoyed Target for a little fashion fix at an affordable price. I'm not holding my breath.
