Tuesday's Rant: The Great Save = The Big Letdown

Most Tuesdays I take the opportunity to rant about something I do not like about Target… because although I love ‘em to death, they ain’t perfect. Today's rant is about Target's new "Great Save" event, which I blogged about the other day. Not only is Target giving up valuable shelf space for their "warehouse" deals - formerly occupied by great seasonal deals on home decor - but the entire event is poorly executed. Case in point: I have now been to 2 Target stores this week (one near my home, and one 20 miles away near my work) and both "Great Save" sections are very poorly stocked. Basically, the surrounding perimiter is filled with multi-packs of toilet paper, paper towels, books and DVDs...leaving the middle racks COMPLETELY empty. Neither Target that I've been to have stocked the supposed "deals" on Samsonite luggage, Hanes t-shirts, and other bulk items. The signage is all there, but the merchandise isn't. Which makes the "Great Save" section look pretty pathetic, IMO.

I was at a Target yesterday and the Great Save area was completely empty. I was back again today (yeah I did that thing again where I buy stuff, try it on at home, and then return what doesn't work), and it was maybe half stocked - I saw paper towels, terrycloth towels, and big packages of food (but not crazy big, just like whatever's the largest size they usually have). Lame.

I went to Target today, and checked it out. It was not impressive at all, and frankly, not the reason I go to Target. The displays were very generic, as were the offerings. They had the Samsonite luggage (very few pieces), but a lot of the shelves were unstocked, and the Christmas clearance was mixed in with part of the display.

Yes - it was all just so barebones and cardboard-ish and depressing.

So bummed they aren't doing the Global Bazaar or Home Decor thing.

Without it, January is officially boring at Target.
