My review of The Shops at Target...

Yesterday I didn’t make it over to Target until late in the day… which didn’t really seem to make a difference in viewing the latest collections from The Shops at Target, as most everything was still fully stocked.  The one exception was The Curiosity Shoppe section;  the question-mark plates I mentioned yesterday were sold out, as were several other items.  And I happened to grab the very last tea-towel set (which I’ll stash away for a future hostess or holiday gift).
I did buy an Odin plaid flannel shirt for the hubby from a very full men’s rack.  IMO, this line looks better in person than pictured online. I may go back and nab him a sweater or jacket at some point once they go on sale.
All the items from Patch NYC seemed very “woodsy owl” to me, so I passed.  It’d be great if you’re outfitting a lake cabin or ski chalet, although the bedding and home furnishings are all done in dark earthtones which are a bit severe for my tastes.  I did see a big burly guy in the checkout line buying this whimsical pillow (shown) which made me chuckle.
And finally, there was the much hyped Kirna Zabete line… which for the most part looked cheap in person.  The polyester blouses we’ve all seen before in other patterns and colors (hello, Jason Wu!) and the the lace t-shirts are flimsy and look like they won’t last through one washing. The tweed jumper with faux leather trim looked decent, although on the rack it seemed a bit boxy. The one bright spot are the jacquard dresses; not my personal style, but if you have the body for it, they look pretty.  Besides basic black, this dress also comes in burgundy, which is hyped to be the “it” color for Fall. And don’t even get me started on the accessories…. the bags and totes look garish, and the jewelry looks like Christmas tinsel.

I forgot to add that I watched most people simply walk by the Kirna and Odin clothing sections, glossing over them to concentrate on "tried and true" Target brands like Converse and Mossimo. The few women who did stop to look at the Kirna racks would pick up 1 or two items to check them out and then quickly put them back; no one was buying it, at least not at my store.

I was so disappointed yesterday. I just happened to be at my local Target so I took a look. I was looking forward to the Zabete launch the most and it was exactly how you described. Even if they were giving it away, it wouldn't have appealed to me. Nothing else caught my eye either. :-( I am starting to wonder what Target is thinking?

same here- went out about 7pm, fully stocked on clothing - no one even noticing! I keep thinking I will run into you one of these times at my local Targets!! My fav item is the sweater- comes in black and white and gray and pink. Wonder if it will make it to clearance? I might buy at $29 and hold onto it and if it hits clearance, rebuy. Have you noticed lately around here stuff is making it to clearance really quickly in clothing? Some things that have only been out a few weeks are at 50% already. Wonder if it depends on how quickly it moves per store. Still regretting returning my owl sweater!

I visited around 7 too and the clothing was untouched and the other things seemed pretty stocked except the question mark plates which I wanted!!!! I was going to get some of the Patch NYC fox stuff like the lamp and candle holder but my daughter talked me out of it. She said it looked creepy. lol
Better luck next time target!

I actually liked the Patch NYC deer cookie jar so home it went along with the set of ceramic plates (they looked so much better in person) these reminded me of other products Patch NYC had made for Anthropologie and the only ones that cought my eye, the rest I could do without or only if drastically on clearance.

I thought the Curiosity shop seemed more cabin-ish to me. Kind of like route 66 and being in a lake cabin combination. I liked the Patch stuff a bit better. I suppose it is a matter of taste. I'm with you on the clothes though. Very cheap looking and the prints were not great!

Yeah... I was a little disappointed this time around, save for the adorable Patch NYC items. Odin was a little yawn-worthy, Kirna was an atrocity, and Curiosity was cute, but just not my cup of tea. The paper goods were cute, but overpriced, in my opinion. The only thing I liked from any of the clothing was the brocade dress, which fit spectacularly on my best friend who accompanied me!

I went mostly for the Patch NYC stuff, and I have to say, they did do a great job there. To me, things felt decently made, and the styling was great for the price! Patch NYC really translated their vibe well into their line. I'm also probably a little biased, though, as gentlemanly, quirky, mid-century is very much my aesthetic!

I think the ODIN line was actually quite nice. It wasn't very fashion forward but when selling to mass market men your average guy isn't going too far out of his comfort zone. I appreciate the rugged colors and clean lines although the red lumberjack shirt jacket was a miss.

PATCH NYC line was amazing. Well designed, very true to their ideas and good quality overall. The duvets are absolutely gorgeous! I think this will be the collection that got away for many people who slept on it.

Curiosity Shoppe was the big flop at my local Targets- lots of product available and very little sold. I just found the products to be forced whimsy.

Finally, I agree with your thoughts on Kirna Zabete - just really cheap looking. I felt like these were clothes I would have seen on a makeover episode of Ricki lake in the 1990s.

Overall, I know some will disagree but I thought the PATCH NYC and ODIN collections are the strongest offerings from the SHOPS concept. Having said that I don't know if Target has worked out the kinks in the SHOPS concept. They are really trying to deliver a fresh experience for their guests but capsule collections stuck endcaps and dedicated racks isn't that unique.

I tried on one of the Kirna bow-tie blouses that had sparkly stuff in the pattern and it itched like hell. The fabric was cheap and uncomfortable. Not good. I did find a pretty patterned tunic-style blouse in her collection that I bought. Looks nice over black pants or leggings. Overall, though, I thought much of it was just nasty. My Target didn't have all of the home decor stuff out yet, so Patch and Curiosity were slim pickens.

Yeah I didn't think the Kirna was very cute either.
I bought these boots @ target the other day.

I couldn't really walk in them so I took them back. Then I was in Dillards looking around and I saw a Steve Madden style that I'm sure they were based on! definitely a which is which worthy boot.
Also thanks for the springmaid sheet recommendation we got some and really like them :)

That jacquard dress looks very similar to a Madrona dress they put out 3 holidays ago. AND why in the heck are they charging close to $50 bucks for this? I'll pass...

I went to two Targets on Sunday morning. I was looking for the Patch NYC items..namely the black plates and the coasters. The first store only had the linens and the lamps and candleholders out. In the ads the lamps looked really cute, and I was leaning toward the woodpecker one. However, in person they looked cheap and crappy...the bases are lightweight resin. I expected a bit more quality in a $50. lamp. The second store did not have the plates and coasters either. I did stroll by the Kirna, they had one bow tie blouse that I liked in the ad. Alas, it was polyester and I thought the entire line looked cheap. Their jewelry left me cold as well. Hub checked out the Odin and reported that it did not interest him. The Curiousity Shop looked cute, but it was what I expected. Fine for touristy collectibles. Over all, disappointed in this offering. Left without buying a thing.
