Stupidest product I've ever seen at Target...

Yesterday I spotted something at Target that has to be the stupidest and most useless product ever created.  To be fair, I'm sure that other retailers other than the Bullseye carry this, as I spied it in their "As Seen On TV" section.  But if they sell any of these things, I'll be surprised.

This "thing" I speak of is called Trendy Top, dubbed as "The Ultimate Layering Accessory!".  But the name is misleading, because it's not actually a top at all. What it is, dear readers, is a band of fabric that goes around your belly to cover any potentially exposed skin (aka "muffin top", or "flesh belt", as my hubby would call it) if your top is too short.  Which can totally be avoided if you just wear a tank top or cami under your regular top... so I can only surmise that the "Trendy Top" is aimed at people too damn lazy to wear a tank or cami. Sorry, but I just can't fathom the need for this product!

I think the min market I've seen for this is pregnant women who have a growing belly and their camis and tank tops don't work anymore because they are too small.

Hmmmm....interesting thought, Brittany. That said, I think there's already something on the market like this already aimed at the maternity set. I think it's called the "Belly Band".

It is actually the belly band..thing is pregnant women like them so much the kept wearing them past their pregnancies and thus this repackaging was created. To be fair...this is the dumbest thing at target/target.com...http://www.target.com/p/pet-belly-bands/-/A-10520869

appears to be a westernized version of a haramaki, which is something japanese women hv been wearing for centuries; not for layering, but to cover their bellies. it's a comfort thing. i use them all winter long.

If you lived in Alabama you'd understand. Adding even a cami at 105 degrees is torturous.

Charcoal and Lime, thanks for the link! But IMHO, the pet belly bands make more sense, as they have a specific use: they are diapers for dogs to save your carpets and furniture from dog marking urine.

GMS, thanks for the background info on the "haramaki"; interesting stuff!

And Megan: in that kind of heat, why wouldn't you just wear a long-enough top to avoid layering all together?

I live in Alabama and a cami is far more breathable even if it covers your upper too than this band of fabric. I frequently layer with a cami but am smothering just looking at this picture!

It seems like these bands would just bunch or roll. I don't see how they stay in place, unless they are super tight, in which case no thanks.

I agree with Brittany that it's just like the maternity belt that makes it possible to wear you regular stuff longer, but go ahead and get the maternity bands Target- they are silly otherwise.
