I’ve reported several times now how JC Penney – in an effort to re-brand themselves – has “borrowed” ideas from Target. Now in another apparent swipe, JCP has announced that Nina Garcia will be the brand's new "resident Style Voice and fashion collection curator."
Says JCP: "In her new role, Garcia will work closely with JC Penney’s merchandise and design teams to offer trend direction and insight into the Company’s exclusive apparel collections. Garcia’s style advice will be made available to consumers nationwide through a variety of in-store activations, digital initiatives, and social media chats throughout the year."

Keep in mind, however, that in addition to her day job as Marie Claire's fashion director and her night job as a Project Runway judge, Garcia already has a side gig as style consultant at Target. Or perhaps I should say “had” - as in past tense - as I’d assume it’s be a conflict of interest and she’ll need to drop her association with Target to work with JCP. I just find it interesting that once again, JCP is trying to mimic the Bullseye.
