Uh oh.... it's happening again. In advance of the official Marimekko for Target launch (which isn't until April 17th) some goods are already hitting eBay, like these cute shorts in a Blue Citrus Pattern. How does this happen, you ask? Well, it's due to the fact that Target always has a press event to promote their designer collabs, and for Marimekko they've created an art installation + pop up shop on New York's High Line. Select pieces from the collection are available for purchase on the High Line, and obviously some of those pieces are being resold on eBay.
If you're lucky enough to live in - or be visiting - NYC this weekend, the Marimekko for Target High Line installation is free to the public and open from April 8 – April 11. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street between 10th and 12th Avenues from 10 am – 8 pm ET daily.

None have sold on ebay yet. I wonder if this is going to be a bust. Not many americans know and love Marimekko. I have an ebay consginment store and all of the marimekko that I've sold (not target of course) has gone abroad. I think the collection is cute but I have a feeling it's not going to be a sell out!
My Target (in the Bronx) has stopped stocking the designer collabs. I am sure this one won't be there either, but it is always interesting to see what trickles in return-wise...
It's disappointing that Target wouldn't increase their orders so that there wouldn't be such a scram for the product. That might discourage some of the eBay vendors and not only that, some of us ordinary people might actually be able to get their hands on these fun Marimekko items. :-(
Do you know if certain stores have a larger stock for these collaborations? Perhaps my local Redwood City, CA store just doesn't get much stock...
Soph, sounds like we're neighbors, as the Redwood City store is my closest one, too! I think in our area, San Mateo might get more items than RWC or Mt. View. Oddly enough, I have observed - and have had a clerk there confirm this - that the Sunnyvale store gets very low stock of each designer collab. This was the case dating back to the MIssoni collection, and was the case with Lilly P as well. This puzzles me as Sunnyvale seems the right demographic for these designer collabs, plus it's one of the largest - and newest - stores in our part of the Bay Area.
We live in the city and have three targets really close by. Two within blocks of each other (serramonte mall and colma) and one off of the 380 in tanforan mall. In the past I've found that all three get stocked in various quantities for these less and less popular collabs. However, I've noticed that the colma one gets more items from the collaboration than the others.
Good luck fellow bay area neighbors!
To my Bay Area neighbors :-). I did most of my ordering online, around 12:30 a.m. PST and was able to get everything I wanted. I didn't stop by the physical stores until Monday. Went to the San Mateo store @ 9:00 a.m. They had a mish mash of clothes left (both adult and kids), but not a lot. They had a good amount of outdoor items left. But no kitchenware that I could find.
I went to the Redwood City store in the evening around 7:00 p.m. They had more clothes than the San Mateo store, and also a good amount of outdoor items, albeit different items than San Mateo. Also no kitchenware.
Takeway for me: The kitchenware must have been the better selling category of the Marimekko collection. And I've learned that I should always check out both stores - based on the types of items available, I think they may serve different demographics to a certain extent. Thanks, Target Addict and @TheStyleCeleb, for your comments that San Mateo and Colma seem to get more product. I love tips like that!
