Tuesday's Rant: Store Pickup Cancellation Notices

On Tuesdays I sometimes take the opportunity to rant about something I do not like about Target… because although I love ‘em, they ain’t perfect. It's actually been almost a year since my last rant - and there's plenty of things that annoy me about Tar-jay lately - but today I'm ranting about store pickup cancellation notices.

Ever order something on Target.com for store pickup, only to have the order mysteriously cancelled a few hours later - before you even have a chance to pick it up? This happens to me a LOT, resulting in an email notification like this one (shown) which makes it sound like *I* initiated the cancellation, which I did not. And what really grinds me is that if I go back and look up the item online at the same store, it shows that the item is clearly still in stock. I guess I find this so annoying because it's probably happened to me a dozen times in the past 6 months, which almost makes me want to avoid the online pickup tool altogether.

What about you, readers? Has this ever happened to you?

This is completely frustrating and happens to me often!!! The whole reason I ask for a store pick up is because I'm in a rush for something, usually clothes, or something for my kids. I intend to have it in my hands within two hours and then, I get an email saying that it is no longer at that location. Now, I’m frantically trying to find a location that has it and is relatively close. When I do find a store, they only have one item of the three I need. UGH! This must say something about me because I keep doing store pickups and I still love Target. I will say that when it does work out, it’s seamless and I don’t spend extra money or time wandering through the aisles. Thanks for letting me rant. LOL

At first I thought the pickup feature was great because it saved me the time of wandering around the store, looking for a specific item. But I've had so many orders cancelled that I've pretty much quit using that option. The order is almost always cancelled because the store didn't have what I ordered, even though the app or website indicated it was in stock. I find Target's online inventory to be extremely inaccurate. Sometimes the app or website will indicate that a store has multiples of a particular item in stock, and when I go there, I can't find a single one. I usually ask for help, but I can only think of one occasion when an employee was able to locate what I was looking for. I don't understand why Target can't get it together in this area.

Ashley: happy to give you the opportunity to rant!
Ericka: that's interesting, as Target usually promises that you can pick up store items (IF they have it in stock) within 2 hours of ordering online.
And Unknown: glad I'm not the only person having this issue! I totally don't believe my latest store cancellation, as I was in on Sunday and saw a row of 6 of the same pillows. On Monday I tried to order 2; the order went thru, only to be cancelled an hour later saying the items were unavailable. So someone bought 6 of the same pillows in one day??? Yeah, right....

The other thing I've noticed is that you are now charged for the item as soon as you place the online pickup order. It USED to be that you didn't get charged until you pick the item up. But now, according to Target's cancellation email notices, if you don't pick the item up OR it's cancelled (either by them or by you) you get a "refund notification".
