The Target + NM Collection: it's here!

On the West Coast, the Target + Neiman Marcus Collection was live as of 12:45am, because that's when I woke up (thanks, insomnia!) and decided to check my computer.  The collection was live on both Target.com and Neimanmarcus.com.  Also at that time, I checked eBay, and there were still only 75 or so items on there, presumably from Thursday's Pop-Up Shop on  NYC.  This morning, there are now over 500, so buyers beware: the things you see on eBay are items that most sellers don't even have in their hands yet.

Some additional shopping tips: if you are having any issues with Target's site, try Neiman's instead, as it may have less traffic.  Scratch that: Racked.com is reporting this morning that Neiman's website is already sold out of many items, and they provide a list of them here.  Target's site, however, still seems fully stocked.   A tip if you do use Neiman's website: use the code "NMFALL" at checkout to get free shipping on your order from now until Dec. 4th, plus free online returns.  The offer is supposed to also include "free gift packaging", but when I tried to put a couple of items from the Target collab in my cart last night, it said that these items weren't eligible for the gift packaging.  So instead, I ended up buying my things from Target.com, where I used my RedCard and got both free shipping plus 5% off my purchase.  I did notice upon checkout there was a disclaimer stating "allow for extra processing time".  I'm not sure what means, except that the shipping ETA was around Dec. 14th.  You may want to keep that in mind in case you're ordering Christmas gifts online, because if they don't arrive until mid-December, you'll have less time to wrap them to send out to family and friends.

If you plan to shop in person, Neiman Marcus stores may have fewer crowds than Target, as I don't think everyone is aware they're opening early at 8am today.  And at NM, you're more likely to get the "personalized service" they're famous for, so if you're looking for one item in particular their staff can help you locate it in the store.  If you do shop the collection at Target, seek out the less-busy ones in the suburbs or outlying areas vs. the major metropolitan outlets.

So what did I end up buying?  Only two things: the Tory Burch Lunch Box from my blog post earlier this week, and this Lela Rose top.  I ended up not getting the Oscar de la Renta bag, because upon further inspection, it looks more tan/beige in the close up pictures than white/cream.  I also considered getting the Carolina Herrera Stationery Set, but $20 seemed steep to me for 3 pads of paper and pencils with her name on it, especially when Target has so many other cute stationery items (at much lower prices) from brands like Greenroom Eco and Mari Mi.

I ordered some items the other day (not from this collection) and I got the "allow extra time for processing" message as well, but the items were shipped out immediately.

Just returned from the Target store in Richfield, MN. I admit, my main reason for going so early was to people-watch and perhaps get a video of people losing their minds- no such luck. There was a line to get in but people were orderly and polite when the doors opened. The items people seemed to be seeking out first were the yoga mat, the TB lunchbox and thermos, and the Marc Jacobs pouches. I also saw several people taking the Proenza Schouler sweatshirt and ipad case. I only got the Rodarte wrapping paper(to frame and hang on the wall) and the Rag and Bone sweater for the hubby. At this particular Target store, I wouldn't be surprised if the items are still in stock throughout the week. Nothing appeared to be selling out immediately, and no one seemed to be buying in bulk to sell online. Plenty of goodies to go around. I didn't inspect every item, but from what I saw, the overall quality was really nice.

I stopped at a smaller Target in the area not expecting to find much, but I was wrong. Instead of having everything spread out through the store, it was all together in one area. The quality on everything seems so much higher than any of the previous collaborations, which given the higher price point is understandable. There were a few people looking around, but everything was well-stocked and no one seemed to be favoring any one item. It also seems like the items don't have the usual "For Target" on any of the labels after the designer name which is a nice change.

Tina: thanks for the info on the "processing" disclaimer.

Suze and Displaced Southerner: thanks for eyewitness reports from your parts of the country! And it's great to hear that there's just one area in the store for this collab; I suspected that was the case from the pics Racked.com posted this morning from the downtown Chicago store.

Any thoughts as to why the shortened return window?

To be honest, I'm TOTALLY over any of these collaborations anymore because of what has happened in the past, and the greed involved. If the stuff happens to be at the store hooray, if not, I could care less now. I'm sure there will be nothing great at the actual store, when I finally get over there.

Live in the midwest (IN) and was there at 8AM when store opened...about 6 people total in line..have to say I was under impressed with items given the price..just because it has a designer's name on it does not make me want something. If I like it I will buy it but left without purchasing a thing. Have previously purchased Missoni and Liberty and really enjoyed looking at all the items in those collections.

just got home from redwood city
lines werent terrible, maby 30 people waiting
everything was beautifully packaged
and very very well made. Price point felt high for Target but cheap for Neimies. I could have bought tons but those 50 dollar items add up. Seemed like the tray was popular as were the gloves. I bought the jacket lace dress and fuzzy bear hat. so fun!

Too funny. That top was one of the things I was mulling too. AND, Target Addict, you are absolutely correct about the eBay shenanigans being online purchases immediately re-posted. I used eBay to see actual pics from the NYC event in order to get a better read on quality. I think if you see the same promo pic of the item by Target and nothing else, it's something the person doesn't have yet. Completely right on.

Howdy readers! Well, I made it over to my local Target today, and I have to say I was underwhelmed. Thankfully, all the collab items are in one section, so it's easy to navigate. Glad I didn't end up ordering the Oscar bag, because I wasn't impressed by it in person. The Judith Lieber compacts were pretty, but they're also quite small and overpriced IMO. I'm not so sure about the Lela top I ordered; I thought it was more cream/black, but up close it's actually nude/black. I'll wait until my order gets here to try it on and make a final decision. Overall there seemed to be a TON of inventory, with several people looking but not that many buying.

I tried on the Lela Rose top in a small. I usually wear a 4 and it fit with no room to spare.. Very pretty but why couldn't they carry the print around to the back of this top and the Tracy Reese top. That's a deal breaker for me. I bought the Lela Rose watercolor dress which is beautiful and needed a size 6. It is very fitted in the torso and I could not have sized down. I got the Proenza sweatshirt in a small but medium worked too and either would be fine. The Prabal Gurung cape fit nice but I don't think it would work for anyone bigger than about size 10. I bought the rag and bone boys sweatér for myself in size large and it fits me. The men's and boy's version of this are both very nice. Wanted to try the xl but it was sold out online and in the 2 stores I visited today. Love but didn't buy the altuzura tray, Tracy Reese plates and mark Jacobs scarf which has a beautiful feel. Very nice collection but a little pricey since they aren't the kind of things I need for Christmas gifts and really don't need to shop now for myself. Hope this helps those who can't get into a store.

I stopped by my local target here in Nassau County, Long Island, around 2:00 P.M., expecting either pandemonium or a nearly sold-out stock on this collar; neither happened, much to my surprise. The Neiman Marcus collection was all in one spot, kind of in an out-of-the-way part of the store, so at first I questioned whether I had the wrong date. Anyway, they had everything in stock but the cape; I don't know if they sold out of it or if they hadn't put it out yet (that happened with Jason Wu; they hadn't gotten one of the dresses for some reason in time to put it out on the day that collab was first presented). The Robert Rodriguez dress was nice, and the only thing I considered buying, but I was ehhhh on it for $100. Other than that...seriously just eh on everything. The compacts were sparkly and pretty but way overpriced, the sweatshirt seemed nice online but wasn't soft enough in person to spend $30 on it (not when my Aerie sweatshirts are so much softer and half the price), the Lela Rose had nice colors, but I don't love the mullet style, and the top looks weird to me, and the Oscar de la Renta bag, which I had slightly coveted online, was, as someone else on here already pointed out, much too beige in real life. Online it looks creamy. I like the Best Friends hats as a gag gift for on of my friends for Christmas, but for $30 I, again, was not going to shell out. I'll wait till those go on sale, which I think they, along with whatever doesn't move, will be on sale as Christmas grows closer, since I don't think Target is going to want much of these items stocking their shelves in the new year. Merry Christmas!!

Stopped by two Target stores in Michigan today to see if the inventory was different. (It wasn't). I initially had some trouble finding the collection--I looked all over the store thinking the items would be spread out in each department--but I eventually stumbled on everything in one location, inside the maternity clothing section. I was kind of amazed that everything was in stock and seemed untouched. At the second store, I saw quite a few people looking over the collection but only one person actually grabbed something, the Tori Burch lunch box, to put in her cart. I ended up getting the DVF yoga mat, the TB thermos and TB lunch box. I loved the Marc Jacobs scarf and pouches but $70 was waaay too much. The cashier told me only four people were in line this morning when the store opened, and that she thought the prices were too high for most shoppers. I have to agree. It's a shame that Target finally has the inventory to meet the demand, but the demand has been reduced by the high price points.

I was totally underwhelmed. If it hits 70% i like the top you got and the tracy reece!

Eh. Pretty underwhelmed. I strolled in Target (San Jose, CA) at about 9:30 am and the only people in the holiday collab section were store employees talking about how overpriced it all was. I only purchased the Tracy Reese plates and sequined blouse.

Finally dropped by the store this evening and found I didn't have to shop online because EVERYTHING is in stock in Culver City. Oh, well. The quality on a lot of stuff is clearly higher, but so many of the items would be frivolous for me. I did buy the Jason Wu ornaments so I can split them amongst three friends. They're very beautiful, heavy, and ornate. Anyone else feel like the stuff may never go on sale but just disappear? Because why the return time?

Shopping Celle said...

Music, I thought the same thing about these never being marked down. I usually buy the items I'm interested in at full price the first day and then watch for sales later. Not sure we will be able to do that this time. I wouldn't think they would do markdowns before christmas and the January 5th date would not follow their typical markdown habits. The other idea might be markdowns but only after the return date window was over. It's all very puzzling.

I have to say, I changed my mind when I actually saw the items. I think they were for once very nice quality and would love to try on the Tracey Reese top when I have more time. I'm glad the stuff is priced higher, because the brought the quality level up a bit, and the sleazy e-bay people didn't swoop in and take everything!! Loved the black lace dress for my daugher.

I went to a Target in CT yesterday (on my way to work) and it was pretty well stocked. They did have signs limiting the number of items people could buy, perhaps in anticipation of the ebay people. My Target here in the Bronx today had a lot of things, but all I left with was the lunch box and thermos and the Rag and Bone sweater. Everything is nice, but kind of pricey. I totally agree about the stationary by the way.

I stopped in our local Target in Wilkes-Barre PA on Saturday, late afternoon. Couldn't find ANY of NM items and figured them to be sold out! Then I happened to stroll into the maternity section and there it was. All the products shoved into an area between maternity and the dressing rooms. Odd. Didn't look like much if anything had been bought. All the items looked fully stocked. Too pricy for me..Nothing impressed me that much that I would spend that much. Not even marked down, nothing grabbed my eye.

FYI readers, my shipment got here very fast: I ordered around 1am on Sunday and my stuff was delivered yesterday. So kudos to Target for the fast shipping! Unfortunately, I will be returning the Lela Rose top, as it fits too snug in the bust + is too long in the torso for me.
