CVS and Target Sign Agreement

CVS Health and Target announced today that they have entered into a definitive agreement for CVS Health to acquire Target’s pharmacy and clinic businesses for approximately $1.9 billion. Through this agreement, CVS Health will acquire Target’s more than 1,660 pharmacies across 47 states and operate them through a store-within-a-store format, branded as CVS/pharmacy. In addition, a CVS/pharmacy will be included in all new Target stores that offer pharmacy services. Target’s nearly 80 clinic locations will be rebranded as MinuteClinic, and CVS Health will open up to 20 new clinics in Target stores within three years of the close of the transaction.

Ugh. I guess this is good, because my insurance is through CVS, though I think it uses Target already too... But I have a weird visceral dislike of CVS. I really like the Target clinic, I can also use them with my insurance. I guess I am getting older and not like change anymore? lol Will that mean the end of the famous award winning prescription bottle? As a designer, that would disappoint me the most.

Critifur: that's funny because I have an odd visceral dislike of CVS also. The one closest to me is in a seedy strip mall, and the next closest one has armed guards in it because it's across from a high school and I heard there's a big shoplifting issue with that location.

And I would certainly hope they don't get rid of the cool prescription bottle! I doubt they would, seeing that Target hypes it so much.

I feel the same about CVS. On the few times I have gone there because there was not a Walgreens close by, the experience has been horrible all around.

I do have all my prescriptions filled at Target, and I hope the merger does not mean that the bad customer service at CVS becomes part of the norm. Aargh!
