Tuesday's Rant: Target.com No Longer Carries Petites

On Tuesdays I sometimes take the opportunity to rant about something I do not like about Target… because although I love ‘em to death, they ain’t perfect. So this rant was supposed to be about the lack of petite maxi dresses at Target this season. In years past, I was able to buy cute maxi dresses online (like the one shown here) in petite lengths which was perfect for vertically-challenged people like me. However recently I noticed that neither Merona nor Mossimo were offering maxis in petite lengths anymore, which frustrated me.

Then I became even more irritated when I did a search on Target.com and found NO petite sizes whatsoever! They seem to have disappeared entirely. In fact, the only "petites" I can find on their site is in hosiery and lingerie. What gives, Target? Have you pushed out Petites to make way for your new Plus Size offerings?

I wouldn't think so. They have always carried plus sizes. I didn't realize they sold petite. I've never seen a designated area in their stores. I'm in a Target at least once a week. I visited several in different states and not seen this section. Contact them personally and find out.

digal704: Target never had a Petites section in stores. It was only online. I've bought petite dresses, pants, and tops from Target.com before.

Regarding contacting them to find out: I could put on a note on their FB page. However, in the past 6 months I've put 2 such notes on there asking why the Converse One Star was discontinued, and they never answered that question for me.

Yep.... sure enough, I posted on Target's FB page, and here's the 'non-answer' I just got:

Thanks for asking about the clothing sizes we currently carry. You can view our full clothing size chart here http://www.target.com/spot/size-charts.... Have a wonderful day! – Jonathan

Same thing happened to me with their size 12 women's shoes. All of the sudden, "poof" they were gone and no straight answer from Target. Even though they were only available online, it was still nice that they offered that size as not many retailers do.

Target cleared out the remainder of their petite section in the fall/winter of 2014. Was able to get a couple pair of petite Bermuda shorts and some of the Merona Ultimate cardigans before they vanished. The petites were cleared out immediately prior to the roll out of plus line Ava and Viv in Jan 2015, so pretty sure there's a relationship. I Googled it at the time (thought there would be an outcry from the petite world), but this is the first mention I've seen. Guess Target considers ankle pants doubling for petite lengths and 3" shorts doubling for petite shorts, but maxi skirts and dresses? WAY too long.

Just to clarify, talking about the online petite and plus lines. :)

Shopgirl888, thanks for the info! That makes sense as the last time I went shopping for 'petite sizes' on Target.com was around Nov/Dec. of last year.

I normally don't shop in Target for clothes but in past i have purchased petite online after trying their normal size clothes in store. Today as i was browsing target and notice some really comfy looking maxi dress and skirt, I tried them on thinking i will go online and buy the petite size. To my surprise I did not see petite size. i was not sure what is going on. this post explains it all. I wish they had some petite size but i guess not enough of us shop there

Thank you for posting this. I thought I was going crazy or something. While Target has always sold plus size clothing, in the past year they have created an entire section devoted to plus size clothing. New mannequins and everything. None of the stuff there fits me correctly now because they discontinued the petite sizes. The petite sizes fit slim and trim with the proper length and width. I feel kind of edged out. Couldn't they have found a way to accommodate both subsets of ladies? I think I'm going to write Target, Mossimo and Merona and see if they get back to me. If it was an issue of the items not selling well, then I understand, but I'd like to get a definitive answer. Thanks again for writing this.
