Tuesday’s Rant: Target doesn’t always have the best prices…

On Tuesdays I usually take the opportunity to rant about something I do NOT like about Target …because although I love them to death, they certainly ain’t perfect. Today’s rant is about Target’s pricing not being as good as it could be on some items. Now I love it when Target takes something popular and put their own spin on it. Case in point: my blog post yesterday where I illustrated how Target is offering a similar tee-shirt to Banana Republic, but at about ¼ of the price. Likewise, this glassware by Libby that Target sells (shown) is almost identical to the “Impressions” glassware by Crate & Barrel. So you’d think that Target’s glasses would be dramatically lower in price, right? Not so; Crate & Barrel’s net out at $1.95 a glass, whereas Target is selling a 12-pc set on sale this week for $20 (or $1.66/glass). Overall that’s only a $3.40 savings on 12 glasses. Surely Target could do better than that, right? I mean if you’re gonna offer something so close to the real thing, you should offer it for at least 20% less than the name-brand offering.

This is really hilarious to me because I have the Crate & Barrel glasses (started with these over 13 years ago when I got married) and I have a neighbor who has the Target ones. She seems to think they're superior since she got them from Target and thus would be cheaper. Nice to know the full story - thanks!! :)

Really enjoy all your Target info!!

Heidi, that's so funny! I got the Crate & Carrel glasses when I got married, too, which is why I immediately recognized the Target ones as "copies".

Thanks for reading my blog!

I got this set a few years ago at Target. So far I have broken 2 of them (on different occasions). Then I saw them at Crate & Barrel so I picked up 2 replacements (on different occasions), I can't tell the difference. I also picked up the pitcher that goes with them at C&B. I don't know that the Target ones are nessesaraly inferrior copies. I think they are actually the same thing. Target just buys them in sets from Libby and C&B must buy them from Libby and sell them individually. (as they do with all their stuff). I also once purchased a gift set of Disaronno at the package store and it came with 2 glasses; I have since seen the same glasses at C&B. None of these stores actually make this stuff (even if it says their name on it) they all buy it from someone else.
