Forecast gloomy for Smith & Hawken at Target

I hate to say this, but things aren’t looking good for the Smith & Hawken line at Target. As I wrote a couple of weeks ago, I had hoped that Target would continue the line (possibly buying out the brand name) despite the fact that the company had gone out of business. However, things are looking grim at my two favorite local Targets; both have taken down the Smith & Hawken endcaps and signage, and the S&H aisle has been reduced to a small – and dwindling – clearance section. And while Target.com continues to carry Smith & Hawken merchandise on their web site, it is primarily a selection of their patio furniture and outdoor accessories vs. their home and garden décor.

PS: Pictured is one of my beloved Smith & Hawken items: a wooden duck that we have on our mantle.

I'm very sad to see what's happening to Smith&Hawkins also. I'm sad about Target PERIOD! My Target has "Wal-Marted" itself & tall stacks of household cleaning products now stand near the store entry. Seems the Target "brains" hope this will help them ride out this recession. Brightly lit shelves of upscale products once greeted Target “guests” as we entered the main shopping areas. No more. The new arrangement in my Target is depressing. They don’t get why I liked shopping there and spending so much time there. We all understand that in retail TIME = MONEY, right?

Hi Kneak; thanks for posting. That's interesting about your local Target; I'm sorry to hear that. Luckily mine hasn't resorted to such tactics.

Update: If you go to www.smithandhawken.com the website will redirect to a target website. S&H lists the definition of rebloom, suggesting the business will be back in some way. I'm wondering if S&H will continue to design their line for Target.r

SUN. STARTRIBUNE(Minneapolis) BIZ SECTION: Target has acquired Smith and Hawkins (since the SH site directs you to a target link now). Since they don't design their own crap (the vendors do and they slap a target name on it) for the stores.
