Victoria Beckham X Target: My Take

I did not plan to shop the Victoria Beckham for Target collab in person on launch day, but my BFF texted me early yesterday morning and convinced me to meet her at her local Target store. I'm glad I did, as I was able to get the elusive bee print scarf, which was one of the first items to sell out online. [Side note: there are currently over 120 of these scarves on eBay at highly inflated prices].

I also got a couple of other things, but I'm afraid they'll be going back due to sizing issues. This dress (shown) was a popular item, but unfortunately it looked like a flour sack on me. On the flipside, the dress I showed in yesterday's post seems to run small, so I'm glad I purchased a larger size online. The tops also seemed to run large - at least on me - which surprised me as usually the sizing in these designer collabs run small.

I will say that I was impressed with both the price points of this line (which seemed to run a bit lower than past collabs) and with the quality/construction. I didn't see loose strings, uneven stitching or other telltale signs of shoddy workmanship as I've noticed in past designer collabs. And the kids & baby clothes are absolutely adorable - those are the items that I'm sure will go fast.

All that said, I don't think this line will be a sellout. When we arrived at the store yesterday, there were already about 12 people in line. Once inside, we were part of at least two dozen women "swarming" the racks, and from the comments I overheard, most people were avoiding the "Wednesday Adams Dresses"  and almost the entire English Lace collection (in Blush and Mint Green).  An exception was the fun navy/white sweatshirt, but overall shoppers didn't seem to gravitate towards the ultra pale pastels.

Do you think Target will offer more bee scarves?...The online shop says temporarily out of stock...THX

Deeds: Probably not. I think in the case of Missoni for Target, they replenished supplies online when they saw the insane demand they had. But I can't recall another Target collab that ever did that.

If you really want the scarf. keep checking back in stores to see if you can find one as a customer return. FYI: all the scarves in store were tucked in among the bee-print clothing, vs. stocked separately in the accessories department. I got to the store when they opened, and they only had 4-5 in stock.

I absolutely agree with you---fit was off. I'm going to Target today to do some returns. so disappointed in the Peplum jacket! No closure at the waist--what were they thinking??

I had only been eyeing a few items, but after the bee scarf sold out, I settled on just the bee long sleeve shirt. I fits nicely and the pattern is nice. If I happen to find that orange romper in my size, I'm snagging it. Otherwise, I'm pretty much done with this collection.

I was hoping for the pink trousers, but they don't seem to be available online and none of the stores in my town - Denver - seem to have them in stock - were they available at all? I found them in black in-store, but not what I was hoping for - did anyone see them in pink?

Interesting. I think the collection ran true to size for the most part. There were a couple items that ran big on me (like the rompers) and the arm holes on English Floral Dress.

I found the bee scarf while at home in Louisiana. I then purchase the flower scarf and orange capris online in the early morning hours. The Louisiana store had a lot of items left the Sunday afternoon. I was not interested in any of it.

I'm late to the conversation. I was also not very jazzed about this line overall and missed the big launch. Afterwards, I regretted not getting the bee long sleeved shirt, the dark floral scallop top, or the retro orange floral crepe top (the last two were online-only). A few days later, I had no trouble ordering the bee top online--currently en route, so I can't speak to sizing, but having seen it now in the store, it looks fine and others have reported that the fit is normal.

I was amazed to see my other two top picks in a store this weekend, in my size, which is typically M. Someone must have returned them. Let me echo the comments that I've seen on Target's website and elsewhere--the cut of these clothes is strange. I tried on the dark floral top in both the S and M. The S fit better under the arms, but felt a little too snug through the shoulders. The M was more comfortable overall, but the cut of the arm holes is a bit low. Not so low as to be uncomfortable, but slightly off. The scallop hem is slightly narrower than the torso part of the shirt, so it essentially has a bit of a gathered effect. Anyway, I love the print and the fit is fine, so I bought it.

The orange retro top was a completely different story. It's more of a cropped or shorter length, so I'd have gone with the M for that reason alone, even if a S had been on offer, but the arm holes--what?! They were so low it was comical. If I'd even raised my arm slightly, half of the torso of the shirt would have moved along with it. Much as I loved that print, I took a pass.

I've liked best Target's collaborations that have extended beyond just clothing. That way, if the clothing is a bust, then at least there is the possibility of some nice housewares.
