Yesterday, Target announced on their corporate blog that they had halted production of the womens' tall Hunter rain boots - the ones that had been delayed and were eagerly awaited by customers. According to their statement, "We had been made aware of some production issues with the boot we created for this limited-edition collection, and wanted to take the time necessary to ensure we were offering our guests a great product at an exceptional value." And they continued "After thorough evaluation, we’ve decided not to make this item available. We’re very sorry, but the production simply didn’t meet our standards, Hunter’s standards, or the standards we want guests to have when they shop at Target."
Lest anyone fret that these sub-standard boots will end up in a landfill, Target promises they are working with a third-party to recycle them. And according to The Recessionista, folks who did happen to find the Hunter boots on launch day in stores were unable to purchase them as the were recalled at the cash register. However, at least SOME of the tall boots must have reached shoppers hands, as a quick check of eBay shows about 40 pairs for sale (although some are actually mens and toddler sizes).

I hope that 3rd party is Goodwill and by recycle they mean donate!
Many stores had received their shipment of the women’s tall rain boot in the days leading up to the launch. Corporate said to pull them Friday night; some stores has already merchandised them on the floor.
Interesting, JCH. I wondered how they were selling on eBay.
The returns have begun to pile into my local San Francisco Target! I ended up buying the black cropped sweatpants with the white trimming on the side -- they are adorable! Loads of childrens items, towels and Men's windbreakers available as well. I almost bought some of the hot pink slides but the width of the slides were too wide for me.
I went to my local target this last Sunday (8 days post launch) and there was TONS of merchandise left. They had at least 10 display racks/tables full of stuff.
The grey unisex packable rain jacket is so nice! It is reflective and is so cute.
Thanks for the link to The Recessionista. What a disappointment! I hope no one buys those defective boots on eBay.
Well after all that hype and then a big fat nothing for us all how about Hunter and Target collar on some kind of discount or coupon on the real boots or something?? It’s just a huge disappointment for a lot of people.
